  1. Do I need to register my plan?

No, not until you file a claim. Your plan is automatically active (and your item is covered) from the moment you purchased it. Just be sure to keep the receipt for your covered item—you’ll need it if you ever do have to file a claim.

  2. What does a SquareTrade Protection Plan cover?

SquareTrade covers all mechanical/electrical failures that happen during normal use. Plans that include accident protection also cover damage from accidents like drop and spills. If a protected item is damaged and we determine it can be repaired, we cover 100% of the cost of parts and labor. Coverage lasts for the term of your plan or until the coverage amount of your plan (generally equal to item purchase price) is used up.

  3. How do I file a claim?

Visit our Claims Center to get started. You can file by phone using our convenient callback service or you can file online if you already have a account. For claims on TVs, we strongly recommend filing over the phone. Our TV techs will be able to diagnose the issue faster over the phone (make sure to be near your TV when you call).

  4. I returned my item and got a replacement. Do I need a new protection plan?

It depends. If you returned your original item and got another item with a different price, seller, brand, or model, you’ll need to cancel the original protection plan and purchase a new plan for your new item. Remember — plans can be canceled anytime within the first 30 days for a full refund.

If your item was repaired or replaced (same item, price, etc.) by the store, manufacturer, or eBay seller, there’s no need buy a new protection plan. Just keep any repair/replacement documentation in case you ever file a claim.

  5. How does my SquareTrade plan work with the manufacturer’s warranty?

SquareTrade protects new items from the day they’re purchased. However, most new items also come with a manufacturer’s warranty that covers the first year of ownership. If there’s an issue with your item that is normally covered by the manufacturer's warranty during that time, we’ll refer you to the manufacturer so they can resolve it. That way, you can save your SquareTrade plan for when you really need it – after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

  6. Where can I view the terms and conditions of my plan?

If you already have a SquareTrade plan, you can log in to your account and visit the My Plans page to view the terms and conditions. Otherwise, click here to view the terms and conditions as well as a summary of our service agreement.

  7. How do I transfer, view, or cancel my protection plan?

It’s easy. Just click My Plans at the top of our homepage. Log in, click on any active plan, and then use the Quick Links to transfer a plan, updated payment information, and more. Click here to watch a video on how to transfer or cancel a plan. Depending on where you bought your plan, you may need to request a cancellation from the retailer.

  8. Why doesn’t SquareTrade cover loss and theft?

A SquareTrade Protection Plan is an extended warranty, not insurance. That means we cover item failures — not loss or theft. For more coverage details, check out our terms and conditions.

  9. When can I purchase a SquareTrade Protection Plan?

You can buy any SquareTrade plan within 30 days of when you purchased the item you want to protect. For items bought on eBay, the purchase window is 30 days following the end of the auction (NOT from when you receive the item).

SquareTrade plans are 100% risk-free. If you need to cancel your plan for any reason, you can do so in the first 30 days for a full refund. After that, you can cancel anytime and receive a pro-rated refund.
