How to Disable Activation Locks

activation lock disabling guide

Before you send your broken device to us, you must disable any activation locks (“Find My iPhone” or “Samsung Reactivation Lock”) and iPhone Touch ID that will prevent us from recovering your device.

If you send us an activation-locked device, you may be charged a fee of $750.

1. iPhone

The easiest method to remove both Find My iPhone and Touch ID is to erase your device before sending it in. Two easy options:

Option 1: On your iPhone

  1. Tap Settings > iCloud. Scroll down and tap Sign Out. In iOS 7 or earlier, tap > Delete Account.
  2. Tap Sign Out again, then tap Delete from My iPhone and enter your password.
  3. Scroll down and tap “Reset.”
  4. Go back to Settings and tap General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. If you turned on Find My iPhone, you might need to enter your Apple ID and password.
  5. If asked for your device passcode or Restrictions passcode, enter it. Then tap Erase [device].

Option 2: Disable Remotely

  1. Sign in to icloud.com/find with your Apple ID, select the device from the dropdown, and click Erase.
  2. After the device has been erased, click Remove from Account.

Once Find My iPhone and Touch ID are deactivated, your iPhone is ready to be sent.
