SquareTrade
to Serve as eBay's Exclusive Provider of Online Dispute Resolution
SAN FRANCISCO -
August 2, 2000 - SquareTrade, the leading innovator in online trust
development and dispute resolution for e-commerce transactions,
announced today an exclusive, 2 year agreement with eBay, the world's
leading online trading community. Today's announcement builds on
the confidence and trust eBay has built with its users through the
development of innovative, value added services.
This agreement between
eBay and SquareTrade is the culmination of a successful 4-month
pilot program begun in February of this year. The pilot clearly
demonstrated the value of online dispute resolution (ODR) both in
creating buyer confidence in online purchasing and resolving issues
related to a full range of low to high value transactions.
"We are very excited
about the success of the pilot program and the announcement today.
Both demonstrate that SquareTrade's highly scalable solution can
provide a valuable consumer service for eBay's 15 million registered
users as eBay continues to build its business," said Steve Abernethy,
chief executive officer of SquareTrade. "SquareTrade's leading online
dispute resolution and trust services are able to handle transactions
of any dollar amount. They provide consumers and businesses, both
large and small, access to the consumer protection tools necessary
to confidently buy and sell online."
eBay users can currently
access SquareTrade's Online Dispute Resolution Services in numerous
places throughout eBay's site.
