California Association of Realtors® Selects Squaretrade as Online Mediation and Resolution Service Provider

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 -- The California Association of REALTORS® today announced it has selected SquareTrade, an online mediation service, to resolve disputes between REALTORS®. SquareTrade's online mediation service can be used for all disputes that can be arbitrated under Article 17 of the REALTOR® code of ethics.

"SquareTrade's online mediation service offers a powerful solution to REALTORS® to help them more quickly and easily resolve disputes and better maintain their business relationships with other REALTORS®," said C.A.R. President Ann Pettijohn. "The service also meets the 2002 National Association of REALTORS® requirement in the REALTOR® Code of Ethics for all local boards to provide mediation for REALTOR® disputes."

SquareTrade developed the customized REALTOR®-to-REALTOR® resolution process in cooperation with C.A.R.

"C.A.R. is again at the forefront of using technology to better serve its local associations, in this case offering SquareTrade's online solution to quickly provide a solution statewide," said SquareTrade President and CEO Steve Abernethy. "The online solution saves local associations time and resources in having to build and manage their own local mediation solution. The service also is tailor-made for busy REALTORS® to quickly and cost-effectively formalize and resolve disputes."

SquareTrade's innovative online service allows REALTORS® to access it from anywhere at anytime, with no need to schedule meetings or even have the disputing parties in the same place. The filer of the dispute simply enters a brief description of the problem and the contact information of the other party. SquareTrade contacts the respondent with the case details and then both parties work with a C.A.R.-approved mediator to facilitate a resolution. A mediator is assigned to the case within two business days of the other party responding. Most disputes are resolved within three weeks.

SquareTrade also was recently chosen by C.A.R. as its preferred dispute resolution provider for consumers in buyer and seller disputes.

SquareTrade (http://www.squaretrade.com) is the leading provider of online mediation and arbitration services, handling more than 150,000 cases across 100 countries over the last year. SquareTrade's patent-pending, online dispute resolution service is backed by an international network of more than 250 mediators and arbitrators. SquareTrade is based in San Francisco.

The California Association of REALTORS® (http://www.car.org) is one of the largest state trade organizations in the United States, with more than 100,000 members dedicated to the advancement of professionalism in real estate. C.A.R. is headquartered in Los Angeles.
